How does it work?
Eli Alerts is a very simple concept. By providing an email address and zipcode, participants in the project will receive an Eli Alert via email when a pet owner in their area reports a pet missing. An Eli Alert contains a detailed description of the pet, the time, date, and location where the pet was last seen, and contact information for the owner. The Eli Alerts Lost Pet Recovery Project gives participants a chance to provide a huge service to their fellow community members at no cost and with almost no effort.

Why are we doing this?
My neighbor's dog, Eli, who for many years was let out every day in his yard without a problem, just disappeared one day. Being late in years, partially blind and deaf, Eli possibly got confused and wandered off his owner's property and was unable to find his way back home. As a pet owner myself, I felt terrible for my neighbor and his family and thought tragedies like this could be prevented if there were a system in place like Amber Alert for pets. As a software engineer with the skills and resources necessary to quickly put together such a system, I just felt like it was something I had to do. That's it.
